Amy’s Story

Client Story:

Amy Raff did not begin her running journey until she was 50 years old. Although she loves to walk her dog Aggie and enjoys being outside, particularly by the beach in Provincetown, MA where she lives and work, she never considered herself an “athlete.” After working with me, Amy began a run-walk program that over the next two months transformed into a 4x a week running program that included some long distance runs, some speed work out, some hill repeats and walking backwards, which I think is so important for runners to do, particularly those like Amy who are bound to the roads more often than not.

Amy began to show up to various 5K’s on Cape Cod every week in the summer of 2024 and then went on to run her first ever 10K and crushed it. Gaining confidence from her running progress she set out to do her first sprint triathlon on the Cape. I was so proud of her. She had an old bike that she borrowed and what she called her “old lady” bathing suit and practiced swimming in some of the ponds on the Cape. She was so brave and all of this was new to her. We talked about transitions in triathlons and programmed in some bike-to-runs or “bricks,” so that she didn’t feel like she was running with a sack of potatoes in her shorts come race day. I beam with pride when I talk about Amy because she’s proof that there are new, exciting journeys waiting for us around every corner if we just step up and invest in ourselves and are courageous enough to start. Now she’s busy training for a 1/2 marathon and her plan is to run a 50K when she turns 60. Go Amy!

Here is her testimonial:

As someone who came to running later in life, I was looking for a coach who would get to know me and understand my goals. Working with Erin has transformed my running journey. She is exactly the coach I needed. With decades of experience as both a coach and an athlete, Erin embodies grace and grit. She encourages me to become the strongest version of myself while always meeting me exactly where I am—without judgment. She reminds me that movement is a gift, helps me to keep gratitude at the center of my training, and that every step brings me closer to my goals. Erin’s grounding, steady voice supports me through every phase of training. She encourages me to trust myself, and to keep going— Amy Raff
