Big news folks. P&G’s has jumped into The Village Grind New Paltz January Strava Segment Challenge and is offering up free burgers (52 to be exact or one per week,) for the individual that completes the most segments of the .45 loop before January 31st at 11:59pm.

What does this mean?

There are now 2 Grand Prizes:

  1. Free Coffee & Scones for a Year from The Village Grind (52 cups of coffee and 52 scones to be exact. One a week)
  2. Free Burgers from P&G’s Bar and Restaurant (52 burgers to be exact, or one a week. These include veggie burgers as well.

The Committee has decided that these prizes will be handed out to the top 2 efforts by January 31st at 11:59pm. The overall winner, the person with the most segments logged will have the choice–burgers or coffee? The 2nd place finisher, will get the other prize.

There are still 2 full weeks to go and it’s anybody’s game.

Karl LaRocca has maintained his lead with 175 segments at press time. He is followed by the young gun, Conor Krueger who has logged in 138 efforts and in 3d place is Bruce Stevens with 121 loops.

On the women’s side, Jules Onamor has taken the Local Legend status with 41 efforts, followed by Erin Quinn (author of this post) who has 37 segments and then Dawn Burdick with 35.

Although pace is not a factor in this challenge, Krueger has taken the Course Record (CR) away from Stevens with a time of 2:56 (6:31 minutes per mile.) Lindsay Stevens, tore up the segment yesterday breaking her own course record with a time of 3:01 (6:42 minutes per mile.)

For those that are not so speedy, do not fret! This challenge is all about consistency and dedication. It’s not how fast you go, it’s how many times you do it.

It’s also about getting outside, moving our bodies, enjoying seeing each other on the segment and supporting our unique and dynamic New Paltz Village hub.

It’s also a short route, less than a .5 miles and there is no entry fee. This is a grassroots community effort. You can learn more about the origin in my past posts below.

So, get out there and start grinding. All paces welcome. You can join our Strava Club which has all the rules listed and follow me on Instagram for updates @erinquinnultraruncoach

The snow is falling. The coffee is brewing, the burgers are sizzling. Who is going to keep going when the going get tough?

Keep. On. Grinding. See you out there.
